Thoughts on What to Do in Boothbay Harbor
We are within short walking distance of the village's restaurants, shops, galleries, the famous footbridge across inner harbor, and the waterfront piers—where you can take excursion boat trips ranging from an hour cruise to a full day at sea. Unless prevented by weather, you should plan some activity on the water to see things from the other side.
Rent a kayak or sail on a schooner, search for whales, seals or puffins, cruise the islands, visit Burnt Island Lighthouse, take in a clambake, a sunset picnic, a reggae cruise, or maybe, just a day of old-fashioned angling for the 'big one.' There is always something happening on the waterfront.
When you want to keep your feet on dry land, there's a bounty of choices from our central location at the top of the hill. You can view the many lighthouses, explore secluded coves, visit the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, or hike along the Boothbay Region Land Trust nature trails. If you're in need of an indoor workout, we have an exceptional YMCA facility with a very reasonable daily visitors rate. Whatever direction you're headed, there's always a general store to find some lunch along the way.
In Season
On summer evenings you may be lucky enough to catch the weekly band concert on the library lawn, or enjoy an entertaining show at the Opera House, a game of miniature golf, or a movie at the small-town, one-screen theater. (And did we mention the stars?)
